Louisiana Insurance Exam Guide

Louisiana Health Insurance Exam 2026

Louisiana offers a standalone Accident & Health line of authority — a focused alternative to the combined Life & Health license for producers who only need this line. The exam is 100 questions in 2 hr. The licensing process itself — application, background check, and continuing education — works the same as for any Louisiana producer license. Here is the Accident & Health-only path, and when the combined exam is the smarter buy.

What This License Is

A Louisiana Accident & Health license lets you sell health, accident, disability, and related products to people and businesses in Louisiana. It is issued by the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

Licensing runs through the same process as every Louisiana producer line — the difference is the focused Accident & Health exam.

Exam Options & Format

ExamQuestionsTime
Accident & Health — Health & Accident Producer (Series 102, PSI) 100 2 hr
Life, Health & Accident Producer (Series 103) — combined alternative 150 2 hr 40 min

The Accident & Health exam is Health & Accident Producer (Series 102, PSI): 100 questions, 2 hr, $36 per attempt. Passing standard: 70%.

Louisiana also offers the combined exam (Life, Health & Accident Producer (Series 103): 150 questions, 2 hr 40 min, $58), which licenses both lines in one sitting. If there is any chance you will sell life or annuity products later, the combined exam is usually the better value.

i
Accident & Health-only vs. combined
Take the single-line exam if your role genuinely never touches life or annuity lines. If it might, the combined exam earns both lines of authority in one sitting.

PSI runs the exam, and there is no pre-licensing requirement

Louisiana contracts exam delivery to PSI, so you study from the PSI Louisiana Candidate Information Bulletin and register through PSI's site. The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) sets the rules and issues the license.

Two things make Louisiana stand out. First, Louisiana does not require pre-licensing education for producer exams - you can register and test whenever you are ready. Second, as of July 8, 2024, remote testing is no longer offered; every exam is taken in person at a PSI test center.

i

Fingerprinting through IdentoGO/Idemia

Louisiana requires a fingerprint-based state and federal background check, handled by IdentoGO/Idemia. Schedule a Livescan appointment, use LDI service code 27N339, and pay the $60.75 fee at the appointment. Results reach LDI through Louisiana State Police, typically within about three days.

Order matters here: you must submit your license application before you get fingerprinted - prints submitted ahead of the application are not accepted. Fingerprinting is also not required when an already-licensed resident producer simply adds a line of authority.

i

Submit the license application through NIPR

File your resident producer application electronically through NIPR. The state fee is $75 per line of authority, so a two-line license such as Life & Health runs $150 in application fees.

Report any change of name, address, or application information to LDI within 30 days - Louisiana fines late changes.

i

Continuing education and renewal

Resident producers complete 24 hours of approved continuing education every two-year period, including 3 hours of ethics. Up to 10 unused hours carry over to the next cycle as general credit, and you cannot repeat the same course for credit within a two-year window.

Licenses renew on the last day of your birth month every two years. Whether you renew in an even or odd year is set by your license number - even-numbered licenses renew in even years, odd in odd years.
