Getting Your Colorado Life & Health License
Because Colorado is single-line-native, the Life & Health path is really two paths run in parallel: complete pre-licensing for each line, pass the Life exam and the Accident & Health exam, fingerprint through a CBI-approved vendor, and file one application that carries both authorities.
You must be a Colorado resident, at least 18, and of good business reputation. The upside of the separate-exam structure is flexibility — you can test for both lines in one session, or stagger them as your study allows.

Achievable is an approved provider, its insurance courses were built by the same subject-matter expert behind TESTivity, and completing the Achievable course earns you the certificate of completion Colorado requires.
One important distinction: TESTivity is not an approved pre-licensing provider in Colorado and does not issue certificates of completion. Two Exams: Life and Accident & Health
There is no combined exam. The Life exam is 80 scored questions (95 with pretest) over 2 hours; the Accident & Health exam is 80 scored questions over 2 hours. Each passes at 70% on the full exam, scored independently.
At a Pearson VUE test center you can take both in one session for a single $41 fee. Online via OnVUE you pay $31 per exam and get one online attempt each; further retakes must be in person.
What It Costs
Plan on about $135 in state and vendor fees for a first-time pass: roughly $41 for the exam session (one fee covers both exams at a test center), the $47 application fee (plus about $5.60 through NIPR), and around $40 for fingerprinting — on top of pre-licensing courses for each line.
Exam fees are non-refundable. Taking both exams in one test-center session is the most economical route.
Fingerprinting & Background Check
Colorado requires a fingerprint-based background check through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI, submitted via a CBI-approved live-scan vendor.
Schedule your live-scan appointment and bring valid government-issued photo identification. Budget about $40, and confirm the exact current fee with your vendor.
Submitting Your Application
After passing both exams, file one application online at sircon.com/colorado or nipr.com and pay the $47 fee — a single application can carry both the Life and Accident & Health authorities. Pearson VUE reviews most applications within about five business days.
You have one year from each pass date to apply. A license alone does not authorize sales — a carrier must also file an appointment for you.
Keeping Your License Active
Important CE details: 24 credits every 2 years total even when you hold both lines, structured as 18 credits in your lines of authority, 3 credits of ethics, and 3 credits of your choice. New producers are exempt their first cycle. Renews on the last day of your birth month with no grace period; up to 12 surplus credits carry over if earned in the last 120 days.
Even holding both lines, you complete a single 24-credit CE cycle every two years — 18 credits in your lines of authority, 3 in ethics, and 3 of your choice — renewing on the last day of your birth month. New producers are exempt their first cycle, with no grace period.
If you sell long-term care, budget for the 16-credit initial LTC training (8 partnership classroom credits included) before you sell, then 5 classroom LTC credits every two years.
