What This License Is
An Indiana Life license lets you sell life insurance and annuity products to people and businesses in Indiana. It is issued by the Indiana Department of Insurance.
Licensing runs through the same process as every Indiana producer line — the difference is the focused Life exam. Note that Indiana requires 20 hours of pre-licensing education for this line before you can sit for the exam.
Exam Options & Format
The Life exam is Life Producer (Pearson VUE): 95 total (85 scored + 10 pretest) questions, 2 hr, $69 per attempt. Passing standard: 70%.
Indiana also offers the combined exam (Life & Health Producer (combined): 150 total (135 scored) questions, 3 hr, $69), which licenses both lines in one sitting. If there is any chance you will sell health products later, the combined exam is usually the better value.
Your 40-hour pre-licensing course (and the 6-month clock)
Indiana requires 40 hours of approved pre-licensing education for the combined Life & Health line (it's 20 hours each if you split Life and Health into separate licenses). You take the course from an IDOI-approved provider, and the provider reports your completion to the state.
When you finish, you'll get a Certificate of Completion - bring it to the test center on exam day. The certificate is your ticket to sit, and it starts a six-month countdown.
TESTivity recommends [Achievable](https://app.achievable.me/study/insurance-life/purchase#a_aid=getthelicense) to satisfy your Indiana pre-licensing requirement. Achievable is an approved provider, its insurance courses were built by the same subject-matter expert behind TESTivity, and completing the Achievable course earns you the certificate of completion Indiana requires.
One important distinction: TESTivity is not an approved pre-licensing provider in Indiana and does not issue certificates of completion. The TESTivity learning tools and study packages will absolutely help you pass the exam — but treat them as a supplement to your Achievable course, not a substitute for it.

Can you skip the course?
Indiana lets certain credentialed professionals bypass the pre-licensing education requirement on the Life and Accident & Health lines. If you already hold a recognized designation, you may be able to register straight for the exam.
Background check - but no fingerprints
Here's where Indiana saves you time and money. Most states route you to a livescan vendor for fingerprints before they'll issue a license. Indiana doesn't. The department runs its state and federal background review from the information on your application - no appointment, no ink, no separate print fee.
You'll still answer the standard character and background questions honestly on the application, and any 'yes' answers need supporting documents. But there's simply no fingerprinting step to schedule.
Applying for your license
Once you've passed, apply online through Sircon (sircon.com/indiana) or NIPR (nipr.com). The resident producer application fee is $40, plus a small transaction fee. You must be at least 18 and maintain a principal residence or place of business in Indiana.
Remember the six-month rule: passing the exam isn't the finish line - submitting this application inside the certificate window is. IDOI typically reviews filings within about a week.
Renewal & continuing education
Indiana licenses run two years and renew by the last day of your birth month, with a $40 renewal fee through Sircon or NIPR. To renew, you'll complete 24 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of ethics on life/health lines.
You can carry up to 12 excess CE hours into the next period (ethics and long-term-care credits don't carry). If you sell long-term care or annuities, note the extra product-training gates that ride on top of the base 24 hours. Let the license lapse beyond 12 months and you're back to an initial application and exam - so keep that birth-month deadline on the calendar.
