Arizona Insurance Exam Guide

Arizona Personal Lines Insurance Exam 2026

Arizona offers a standalone Personal Lines line of authority — a focused alternative to the combined Property & Casualty license for producers who only need this line. The exam is 100 (+5 unscored trial items) questions in 2 hr. The licensing process itself — application, background check, and continuing education — works the same as for any Arizona producer license. Here is the Personal Lines-only path, and when the combined exam is the smarter buy.

What This License Is

An Arizona Personal Lines license lets you sell property and casualty coverage to individuals and families — homeowners, renters, personal auto, and similar non-commercial risks in Arizona. It is issued by the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI).

Licensing runs through the same process as every Arizona producer line — the difference is the focused Personal Lines exam.

Exam Options & Format

ExamQuestionsTime
Personal Lines — Personal Lines (Series 13-44, Prometric) 100 (+5 unscored trial items) 2 hr
Property & Casualty (Series 13-34) — combined alternative 150 2 hr 30 min

The Personal Lines exam is Personal Lines (Series 13-44, Prometric): 100 (+5 unscored trial items) questions, 2 hr, $38 per attempt. Passing standard: 70%.

Arizona also offers the combined exam (Property & Casualty (Series 13-34): 150 questions, 2 hr 30 min, $49), which licenses both lines in one sitting. If there is any chance you will sell commercial products later, the combined exam is usually the better value.

i
Personal Lines-only vs. combined
Take the single-line exam if your role genuinely never touches commercial lines. If it might, the combined exam earns both lines of authority in one sitting.

Eligibility Requirements

You must be at least 18 and maintain an Arizona residence or a legitimate business presence in the state. A criminal history involving fraud or dishonesty can lead to denial; answer all background questions truthfully.

Passing Score

You need 70% to pass, with your result shown on screen immediately. Aim for a consistent 80% on practice exams before scheduling.

Keeping Your License Active

Important CE details: Includes a one-time 3-hour NFIP flood course by first renewal if you sell flood.

Arizona requires continuing education each renewal cycle. P&C and Personal Lines producers must also complete a one-time 3-hour National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) course by the end of their first renewal period if they sell flood insurance — those hours count toward the CE total. Confirm current requirements on DIFI.
